The monsters from Sweden have returned to release their third full length, entitled Demon Dealer. Based around the killer riffage of Petter Freed, hereafter referred to as Mazza, they create thick, solid groove that is the definition of headbanging music.

Demon Dealer picks up where Boogie left off. While Demon Dealer seems to have a darker aura about it, it follows the same formula of thick riffs, nonstop drums, and Mogge’s vicious vocals. If it isn’t broken, there’s no reason to fix it. If you’ve never heard 2 Ton before, they’re often compared to The Haunted. I somewhat agree with this comparison on a general level, but they still are two very distinct bands. Where The Haunted often opt for a faster, more thrashy sound, 2 Ton just play outright heavy. Mazza does not fail to please, as his guitar playing is the obvious core of every single song. He is backed by Matte, the perfect complement to his crushing guitar playing. I couldn’t imagine any other two people playing drums and guitars for this band. Topping it all off is Mogge, whose vocals were initially a surprise to me. I originally expected some deep death growls before I heard, because it seems to be typical of the Swedish bands I’ve heard. Now I realize that his scream/growl combination is the perfect fit to this intense music. With these three very skilled Swedes combining their power, the bass of Tobias kind of gets lost in the mix, but sadly that too often happens in today’s music. Regardless, they all meld into a well-oiled groove machine.

If you’re looking for more of the same aggressive, powerful songs as on Boogie, this is a great deal. I can’t get enough of it. Mazza finds every way to kick your ass over and over again. Mogge continues to tell you how he’s going to mutilate your body. Matte’s limbs haven’t fallen off yet, amazingly. The subtle difference is that while Boogie appropriately was more groove oriented, Demon Dealer is just damn heavy. You can’t go wrong with the Swedes. Get your copy as soon as you can.
