Bible of the Devil - The Diabolic Procession

Remember a time when heavy metal didn’t have and sub-genres and was an entity unto itself? Well, I am old enough to recall those days very well. Although I admit to like alot of different forms of metal, I still enjoy it when a band comes around that still espouses to live up to that traditions of no BS metal music. This Chicago-based quartet is one such band that plays meat-and-potatoes, no-frills heavy metal while still managing to employ a “now” factor in their music.

The Diabolic Procession is the band’s fourth album and features a barrage of twin harmony guitars during the verses of the songs and throughout the course of the album itself. Mark Hoffman is on vocals and lead guitars and possesses a vocal style reminiscent of a band like Holocaust – another band lauded in heavy metal circles as being the “real deal”.

The riffs of Hoffman and fellow guitar slinger Nate Perry fall somewhere between early Metallica and Saxon. There are just alot of “NWOBHM”-isms on this album…and that’s a good thing. The rhythm section of drummer Greg Spalding and bassist Darren Amaya are tight and hold the bottom together accordingly. There are so many cool riffs and solos on this album, along with alot of sing-along choruses and riffs to bang your head to, that you just want to reach for the denim and leather and the tennis racket and go to town!

If your listening preferences are true blue, traditional heavy metal, then you could do no worse than to contact the band or their record label, the fine Cruz Del Sur records, and pick up this baby…posthaste!
