Man, I didn´t even know that these guys were back on the farm. I was a fan of them back in the early 90’s when they had their classic Condemned out. It´s been a good 15 years since and a lot of water has passed under the bridges of North Carolina (never been there, but I suppose there are at least one or two).

One of the reasons they got back together is said to be because of the death of guitarist Ivan Colon and to raise money to cover for his family’s medical bills.

On Unraveled there are more of the doomier stuff, gone are the obvious progressive thrash influences that you could find on Condemned This time around they are cranking up some sort of progressive doom. I would label Unraveled as a technical doom album…that would not necessarily appeal to the average doomhead. I think Confessor will reap it’s new fanbase among the Dream Theater crowd rather than the likes of St. Vitus.

The drumming is excellent and Scott Jeffrey’s vocal skills are indeed very good, however it can get somewhat annoying to hear him wail all the time. He´s a good singer, but he gets boring on a full length album. Jeffrey tends to show off his skills a little too much. The songwriting and arrangements are also very good, but as I stated they suffer from the fact that the vocals tend to steal a lot of attention from the music itself and therefore makes the whole album a little more boring then it actually could have been.

Don´t get me wrong here now, I´m not saying Unraveled is a bad album, not at all, I could easily pick out 2-3 tracks that could make it on a mix CD in my car on a good day. Confessor anno 2005 is preferably served daily, but only in small portions.

Stand out tracks: “Blueprint Soul” & “Until Tomorrow”
