Death Metal fans across the globe should immediately recognize Heinous Killings, but more importantly the frontman and main composer of this album, Joe Wolfe. Joe has been active in the scene for many years, growling/spewing for bands like Erotic Incisions and Clean Flesh as only he can. For those who don’t recognize Joe, allow me to give you a brief lesson on why this is so important to my review as a whole.

You see, Joe Wolfe is not your typical death metal growler. Joe, in fact, is quite possibly the most sickening and inhuman growler our planet has ever seen. The things this man is able to do with his voice are nothing short of terrifying, and while that might seem like a stretch for many of you skeptics, be very much assured that I don’t lie when it comes to my beloved death metal.

Heinous Killing’s debut, Hung With Barbed Wire, has officially won my award for 2006’s most disgusting display of death metal dominance. If you’re sitting at your computer screen wondering why I’m not mentioning the guitars, bass, or drums, it’s because Joe played all of them himself (the band now has a full lineup, however), and as killer as the music itself is, it simply gets lost compared to the vocals.

I’m being completely serious with you here…these vocals are simply not human at all. There are times when Joe actually duplicates the sounds made by The Predator in the classic Ahnold film…without any vocal effects at all. The man has more range and feeling than anyone else in the genre, and all vocalists from this point on should bow before him in praise of this record.

Total…relentless…heinous. Pick this up immediately, folks. I guarantee you will NOT be disappointed.
