Honky - Balls Out Inn
- Released: 2005
- Label: Small Stone Recordings
- Rating:

I hadn’t ever heard of Honky until I got this promo, but apparently this is release number four or five for the band. It’s a shame it took so long for them to come to my attention. For any fan of balls-to-the-wall rock and roll, you’ve come to the right place.
Honky doesn’t pretend to be anything but what they are – rock and roll. However, the songs vary enough to keep your attention throughout the entire album. A large portion of it is comprised of upbeat tunes that you could see yourself sharing a few beers with friends to while shooting pool at the pub. Mixed in between are a few songs to change up the tempo a bit – hangover music, as Mr. Wylde would put it.
There’s not too much more to say about the album. There are no standout tracks. That’s not to say that the album sounds the same, it’s just that each track is just as good as the one before it. The musicianship is top-notch, even though the guys don’t venture into any unchartered waters. Honestly, that’s not really a requirement in this genre. As long as you get the head nodding and the beers tipped up you’re in a good shape. These guys definitely get that done.
If you’re a fan of rock, stoner rock, southern rock, all of the above or any combination of them, there’s a good chance you’ll dig Honky. Check out their website and/or Myspace page for some audio samples and see what you think.
