When I first received this promo from the Spanish label Xtreem Music, I thought, “oh, great, another fuckin’ Swedish death metal band.” Then I noticed the album was produced by Mieszko Talarzcyk (Nasum/Exhumed), who produced two albums for fellow Swedes The Project Hate MCMXCIX. The album was also mastered by Dan Swanö (Edge Of Sanity/Bloodbath), who co-produced the first album from The Project Hate MCMXCIX. To say that Pagaziner had piqued my interest at this point is a huge fuckin’ understatement.

While Paganizer sounds absolutely nothing like The Project Hate MCMXCIX, they do share a common bond with killer production that will shake your fillings loose and blow out your windows. Musically, Murder Death Kill is classic old school Swedish death metal (think early Grave and Entombed). This certainly isn’t new territory, and there’s a lot of bands around that are still playing the early 90’s style, but Paganizer are great at what they do.

The songs are all undeniably Swedish sounding, with a heavy Grave influence (and a hint of Germany’s Fleshcrawl), but Paganizer takes the old school sound and makes it their own. Murder Death Kill may not be the most original album of the year, but it’s top notch shit. If you’ve got a hard-on for current bands playing old school death, Paganizer is guaranteed to give you wood. As always, don’t take my word for it. Buy the album, support the scene.
